Life from Arts: a new life for the Marchiondi Institute
History and future, art and education, redevelopment and urban regeneration: these are the essential elements of the project “Life From Arts”, thanks to which the former Marchiondi-Spagliardi Institute, in the Baggio Area, will become an innovative College of Merit. The initiative was presented on September 20 at Palazzo Marino (Milan City Hall), at the presence of the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala, by Salvatore Carrubba e Stefano Blanco, President and Managing Director of Fondazione Collegio delle Università Milanesi, together with Anna Scavuzzo (Deputy Mayor), Angelo Bugatti (BCMA Studio and CAUP – Shanghai) and Emanuela Carpani (Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape Superintendence).
After several years of decay and neglect, the Marchiondi Institute, a brutalist work of art designed by Vittoriano Viganò, will come back to life. The new university residence, which will stand in the same area and will extend for more than 21,000 sqm, will have art as its main driver: it is the first experience of its kind in Italy and one of the first in Europe. There will be 167 rooms: modern accommodations, progressive from the point of view of energy saving and technology. There will also be services and spaces dedicated to studying and artistic and musical education, as well as laboratories, sports areas and restoration areas. The appointing of the works will be by the end of 2024 and the works will begin by spring 2025, with the official opening in September 2028.
The total investment is of roughly 44,5 million Euros.
